Docudrama about a street in Rome. The film is based on the idea that architecture starts declining with the invention of the printing press. It covers 400 years of architecture, of literature and of music. The film presents the most important Italian composers and writers of the last 400 years. The first film shot in Italy with 16 mm stereo sound.
This is a "film infinito", an unfinished film, in whose making the viewer himself takes part. Twelve scenes are reconstructed, from Tasso to Pasolini. Everyone must assemble them for themselves in their own mind. This was the first 16 mm film shot in Italy with original stereo sound.
"The rhythm of the film follows the literature and the architecture it portrays. It is the words of the poets, the forms of the architects, that so to speak breathe life into the film. (...) The viewer takes part in the very creation of the film; this is probably why the author calls his film a 'film infinito'. The viewer is invited to make his own connections between literature, music, architecture and - the noise of Roman traffic. A successful experiment in portraying the history of a street."
Giancarlo Riccio in "Il Tempo", 28 October 1983, p. 13
The film is available for 8 € (digital streaming access) - in the original Italian version. After purchase you get instant access to the film.
