This television film describes a dispute between the expressionist German poetess, Else Lasker-Schüler and her publishers. The film takes place in Berlin before, during and after the First World War and deals with an author's rights, according to Karl Marx. "A writer is judged as productive, not on the amount of ideas he produces, but on the amount of money his publisher is able to profit from his works." Karl Marx
"Georg Brintrup's film 'Ich räume auf' is set in Berlin in the 1920s and closely follows Else Lasker-Schüler's accusation against her publishers. Film images are carefully and precisely combined with written language; a very poetic film - with a gesture of 'heroic realism' that addresses, in a highly topical way, the form of exploitation and corruption in aesthetic production, from which no genre of artwork can escape."
Monika M. Hielscher in "Medium" 10.Jg. 1980, Heft 5
